Octave 7.1.0 for Mac Catalina Download 2023
A free and open 7.1.0 source language designed to provide support for performing numerical computations, that can deal with linear and non-linear problems
GNU Octave 7.1.0 for Mac can be downloaded from our software library for free. Octave for Mac-3.8.2.tar.gz is the most common filename for this application’s installer. The following versions: 3.8 and 3.4 are the most frequently downloaded ones by the program users.
The program lies within Education Tools, more precisely Science. The application is also known as “Octave”. The file size of the latest setup package available is 19.9 MB. Our built-in antivirus checked this Mac download and rated it as 100% safe. This free software for Mac OS X was originally developed by John W. Eaton. The unique identifier for this application’s bundle is org.octave.
Octave Application for Mac
GNU Octave for Mac is a high-level interpreted language, primarily intended for numerical computations. It provides capabilities for the numerical solution of linear and nonlinear problems, and for performing other numerical experiments. It also provides extensive graphics capabilities for data visualization and manipulation.
You may want to check out more software for Mac, such as Gnu Privacy Assistant, QtOctave or PSPP, which might be related to GNU Octave.
GNU Octave for Mac is a powerful language designed to help you solve mathematical problems by running numerical computations. The language comes with a command line interface, and can be installed from source (latest version), or you can run the available binary installer.
Octave for Macos Download
Since GNU Octave for Mac is an open source project, its highly probable that you will not find the latest release as binary. In this case, you must either compile from source yourself, or make use of one of the three supported package managers: Fink, MacPorts, or HomeBrew.
Using the latter option is recommended, since the package managers will handle both the download and installation procedures. However, keep in mind that you must have any of the three utilities already installed on your Mac.
Perform numerical experiments by using a Matlab like language
GNU Octave is able to handle both linear and non-linear algebra problems, such as finding the roots of an equation, handling polynomials, dealing with functions or differential equations.
The GNU Octave language is making use of modules developed in C, C++, Fortran and other popular programming languages, so you can extend its capabilities by writing your own functions. In fact, you can can develop your own applications based on the GNU Octave language.
Comprehensive Matlab like language that can manipulate and generate graphical representations for numerical computations
To help you get started, GNU Octave comes with online instructions for the installation process, but the project also provides an extensive documentation that shows you what you can do within the language, ranging from simple examples to debugging and plotting graphical representations.
To conclude, the GNU Octave language provides extensive support for dealing with mathematical problems, and experimenting with numerical computations. Furthermore, GNU Octave for Mac can also generate extensive graphical representations, so you will be able to analyze the results from multiple points of view.

Octave.app is a project to bundle and distribute GNU Octave as a native Mac GUI application. This makes it easy to install and use GNU Octave on Mac. GNU Octave is a language for scientific and numeric programming.
We are not an official GNU project or part of GNU Octave. We are a rag-tag band of misfits who’ve written a tool to download and build GNU Octave and its dependencies and bundle them as a Mac app. Our goal is to make ready-to-use Octave.app installers available to the public.

When running Octave.app for the first time, instead of just double-clicking it, you will need to right-click on it and choose “Open”, so you get a dialog asking you if you really want to run it, since it’s from an unidentified developer. This is because the app is not signed. This is something we’re working on.
- macOS, version 10.11 El Capitan or newer
- MacTeX, if you want the help command to work properly for Octave Forge packages.
- Most of Octave.app’s code is GPL, with the exception of its Homebrew formula files, which are BSD 2-Clause License.
- GNU Octave itself is GPL. Its dependencies are available under various FLOSS licenses.
Installing with Homebrew Cask
To install Octave.app using Homebrew Cask:
brew tap octave-app/octave-app brew cask install octave-app
Installing directly with Homebrew
NOTE: This is not the normal way to install Octave.app! Unless you have a particular reason for doing this, please just download and install the regular Octave.app distribution.
If you want to build and install our Qt-enabled Octave build via Homebrew instead of using the Octave.app distribution, you can do this by setting up Homebrew as normal, and doing the following:
brew tap octave-app/octave-app-bases brew install octave-octave-app
If you have a previous
octave build from the regular Homebrew or dpo/openblas formulae, you need to unlink it first with
brew unlink octave.
Octave Shifter 2 is a free, real-time pitch shifting Audio Unit effect. Featuring four full octaves of pitch adjustment, low latency processing and automation support, Octave Shifter 2 will satisfy both your live and studio pitch shifting needs.
Key features of the Audio Unit include:
- real-time, low latency processing for live performances

Additionally, Octave Shifter 2 makes use of the industry standard generic Cocoa and Carbon graphical interface views for Audio Units offering a seamless integration into host applications like Logic (Pro), Garageband and AU Lab.
WHAT’S NEW IN VERSION 7.1.0
- Mac OS X Tiger (10.4) or higher
- Audio Unit host application
Our apps are not signed yet. This means that the first time you run them, you must right-click Octave.app and choose “Open” instead of just double-clicking it, and then choose “Run” from the dialog that pops up, when it asks you if you want to run an app from an “unkown developer”.
We’re working on fixing this by getting signed releases. Sorry for the inconvenience.

- oct-files are not compatible with Octaves installed at different paths Bug #43
If you want Java to work inside Octave.app, you need to install a particular version of Java.
The Java 1.8 you have installed must be exactly
jdk1.8.0_181.jdk, due to how the Octave build and Java detection system works. (This was the latest release of JDK 1.8 at the time Octave.app 4.4.0 was built.)
If you do not care about Java working inside your Octave.app, you can ignore this JDK requirement entirely.
