Spectacle makes use of several keyboard shortcuts that trigger specific window actions. A window action is nothing more than a command that tells Spectacle how to change the size and/or position of a particular window. A keyboard shortcut consists of one or more modifier keys paired with a character key. The default keyboard shortcuts can be changed at any time. Use new key combinations to trigger window actions, or clear particular keyboard shortcuts to disable window actions entirely. You can also click to expand the Spectacle menu from top menu bar to quickly resize and reposition current window or app on Mac.

Manage Your Windows Your Own Way For Free
Spectacle is a free and open source app that allows you to reshape, resize and reorder your windows with simple keystrokes. You set up your own keyboard shortcuts, and then use them to move windows around your screen. Split two windows on each side of your screen, top and bottom or left and right, or move a specific window to the foreground: Spectacle does a variety of different things, all with your windows. And it’s free.
A Good User Experience, A Great Learning Curve
Spectacle starts you off with a few default shortcuts to do just a few of the things it’s capable of, some of which were named above. In reality, it can do a lot: it can configure windows in just about any size and layout you’d like, work with any open window or with specific apps, and more. But getting it to do all of this takes some learning: it’s expected that you’ll eventually abandon the app’s default shortcuts to make your own. The defaults are good examples to work off of and make it a little easier.

Note: While the software is classified as free, it is actually donationware. Please consider making a donation to help support development. Spectacle allows you to quickly reposition and organize open windows on your Mac, in a manner similar to Microsoft’s Snap feature for Windows.
Great organizational tool: Spectacle can increase your productivity by organizing your messy desktop. The app allows you to organize spreadsheets, documents, or any applications side-by-side for easier viewing.
Keyboard shortcuts: Keyboard shortcuts allow you to efficiently move windows and organize them any way you want without a touchpad or mouse. This is especially helpful when you’re using your laptop on the go.
Small footprint: At just under 5MB, Spectacle is a tiny app with great functionality that won’t slow down your Mac.
Multiple arrangements and adjustments: The app not only allows you to divide your desktop into left and right halves, but you can also divide top and bottom or split your screen into four quadrants. You can also move between multiple displays and quickly adjust windows to any size via hotkeys.
No snapping: Spectacle only allows you to arrange your windows by shortcuts; you can’d drag and snap them with the mouse. If you’re looking for the Aero Snap function of a PC, Spectacle isn’t right for you.
Split View hiccups: With the introduction of Split View in OS X 10.11 El Capitan, Mac offers side-by-side app viewing in full-screen mode. As of the current beta build of OS X 10.11, Spectacle may crash your opened application when used in conjunction with Split View. This might be due to El Capitan’s current state of development rather than Spectacle itself.
