Twitter for Mac Catalina Application

Twitter for Mac is the official Twitter application for Mac. From breaking news and entertainment to sports, politics, and everyday interests, when it happens in the world, it happens on Twitter first. See all sides of the story. Join the conversation. Watch live streaming events. Twitter is what’s happening in the world and what people are talking about right now.

Customization options allow users to configure different new message notifications, mentions, or tweets, either by highlighting the menu bar icon, a badge for the dock icon, or a growl notification. Users can also choose from a list of image services such as yFrog, Twitpic, and others. The Twitter for Mac user experience is great, and navigation is made super-easy: you can use your arrow keys to go up and down, and the right arrow key can be used to navigate to the Web site the tweets link to. Those using portable Mac devices will enjoy the “iOSification” of the Twitter app, as they can employ gestures to navigate anywhere within the app.

Although we liked the application’s great, simple design, we have to note that Twitter for Mac has several limitations. While it works just great for navigating and posting messages to the Twitter feed, power users will miss the Add Column feature, which is useful if you are hunting a specific subject in the Twittersphere. Overall, Twitter for Mac is a well-designed and easy-to-use app most users will love.

What’s New

We made a number of improvements to Twitter for Mac so it is even better for you.

Official Twitter client for Mac

The official Twitter client has long been available for iPhone and Android but its taken the arrival of the Mac App Store to bring it to Mac. Note that there is also TweetDeck for Mac which is also developed by Twitter although this is the official client.

Twitter for Mac looks and feels very much like its original incarnation as Tweetie which is no surprise, but is a bit more polished and integrated with Twitter as you might expect. Twitter features the same slick interface with tweets appearing down the right hand side and six buttons down the left to navigate and use it including new tweets, personal messages or trending topics

One thing that is a bit odd in Twitter for Mac is that the option to write a new tweet is hidden away in the bottom left hand corner of the interface. Of course, once you know where this is, its not a problem but it does seem strange that the developers have chosen to “hide” it like this. Notifications are also limited – a blue box in your Menu Bar is all you get to tell you that a new tweet has been made if the main interface is hidden.

Twitter for Mac is a wonderfully slick twitter client and if you liked Tweetie, you’ll love it

Now you can see when your Tweets have been retweeted or favorited, when you have a new follower, and when you’ve been added to a list in your @Connect timeline. You can also update your notification settings to see interactions in real time. When you read a Direct message on Twitter for Mac it will be marked as read in all of your official Twitter apps, including Twitter for iPhone, Twitter for iPad, Twitter for Android, twitter.com, mobile.twitter.com and TweetDeck.

Editors’ Review

Twitter for Mac brings the iOS experience closer on the computer by eliminating the traditional title bar and relying only on sleek, side-tab navigation. The app feels native on the system, and its intuitive, simple user interface provides a great user experience, although it lacks some of the features power users will find on other Twitter feed reader apps such as Tweetdeck.

The Twitter app makes it super-easy to handle multiple accounts. As soon as users add an account, its avatar will appear on the app’s sidebar. We liked the simple and effective visual notifications Twitter for Mac uses to bring its users’ attention to new replies, tweets, and direct messages; it displays a notification similar to those that the dock uses, which makes it feel native.
